LOVE ROCKS CONCERT

LOVE ROCKS CONCERT

Cultural Recap: OTD celebrates the contributions of an honorable organization in a moment of community support.

Last week we contributed to the sixth annual LOVE ROCKS NYC benefit concert, which took place from inside the historic Beacon Theatre in New York City. To capture the energy of the event and continue to spread the word of God’s Love We Deliver, we spoke to a few of the featured talents last week—read their inspiring words below.

The concert not only benefited God’s Love We Deliver, it served as a celebration for the organization who will deliver their 30 millionth meal this spring. The organization, which was founded during the AIDS pandemic in 1985, has been an essential services provider during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, the organization cooked and delivered more than 2.6 million medically tailored meals to nearly 10,000 New Yorkers living with and affected by severe illness, and its staff and volunteers continue to work tirelessly to meet the ever-growing demand for its services.

Hozier
"My style icons would be Samuel Beckett and Tom White. I got involved with God’s Love We Deliver and Love Rocks NYC through John Varvatos. It’s just a pleasure to do something for such a good cause, especially post pandemic. You kind of realize how important it is given a lot of people can’t leave their homes. It is such an amazing thing to be part of and an amazing night."

Bill Murray
"My style… I put my pants on one leg at a time. I don’t really have a style icon, but if I had to pick, I think Bob Dylan. I heard when he was in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid he dressed himself every morning. He would just go into the wardrobe trailer with the lights off and chose in the dark, and sometimes, would pick a different outfit every day—even if they were shooting the same scene."

"My sense of style is bold, colorful and very chic. Jimi Hendrix is a big style icon of mine, and so is Stevie Nicks and Jimmy Page. Love Rocks NYC is an event that I have been a fan of since the first year. It has always been known as this concert that all the best artists play at […] for an organization they support. […] So I’m just so excited to be here and in the company amazing hero’s.

I really love Bianca Jagger’s style. She can pull off elegance and irreverence all at once. She is incredibly chic but also a bit quirky which makes her so exciting to watch. She is the epitome of playful glamour. She can wear a sparkly silk gown or a tailored suit and tie and be totally captivating in both.
Ben Harper
"My style icon in fashion would have to be John Varvatos. In music, it would have to be Harry Styles. I wanted to be involved with Love Rocks NYC because of the cause as well as the incredible cast."

"Ben Harper gave me this jacket 15 years ago when I first met him. I like holding onto pieces that have a story, a meaning and a purposeful connection with someone. I wanted to be part of Love Rocks NYC because they do so much good for the community in New York City, delivering meals to everyone and also because of the fact that they are also giving back to those in Ukraine. I think that’s important. The fact that Love Rocks has been able to raise so much money for God’s Love We Deliver is incredible, and the fact that I have anything to do with it is really important to me. I think anyone who shows up here should be really proud to give back."
